our mission statement

PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through Support, to cope with an adverse society, Education, to enlighten an ill-informed public and Advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights.

PFLAG provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.

PFLAG NATIONAL

Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, Inc. is a support, education and advocacy organization. PFLAG is a tax exempt, non-profit organization that is not affiliated with any political or religious institution.

At PFLAG, participants find a confidential, warm and supportive setting where we can share our concerns with others and find comfort and reassurance about our gay children, family members, friends and ourselves.

History

Founded in 1981 by 25 parents, PFLAG now represents more than 75,000 households, and speaks for thousands of others. PFLAG affiliates are located in more than 400 communities throughout the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 11 other countries.

PFLAG was created by parents, families and friends to gain understanding and support of our gay loved ones. PFLAG offers a wonderful global opportunity for families, friends, and gay people (gay men, lesbians, transgendered and bisexuals) to learn and grow together.

PFLAG SD is a 501(c)3 charitable organization making your donations tax-deductible. Under IRS guidelines, the full amount of any gift and/or membership is deductible as a charitable contribution. Upon request, written documentation of donations will be provided for tax-related purposes.
