Editor: The terms: gay (or lesbian) and straight, should probably be considered imprecise designations. They are almost generalizations. It's been known for more than 50 years that a continuum exists between exclusive homosexuality and exclusive heterosexuality. This middle ground is called bisexuality. As you might guess, statistics in this area are hard to come by, but a good bet is that most of us are bisexual to at least some degree. Yep, that means that many of us straights - macho men or very feminine women - feel at least a small same sex attraction. Conversely, the opposite gender is at least a little appealing to many gays. Confused? Sorry about that, but that's the way our human species is. Or, for us religionists, that's the way God made us. Where we are on this gay/straight continuum is a small but important part of each of us. And it's nothing to be alarmed about or ashamed of. Why? Because it's involuntary, irreversible, natural, and has nothing to do with morality. It's part of the wonderful spectrum of human diversity. It makes life more interesting. Let's recognize and celebrate it. Rocky Velgos |
